Peckfield can trace its industrial use back over hundreds of years, from mining, quarrying and lime production. It is these historical industries that have left the Peckfield legacy as it is today.
A viable way of filling the quarry and removing the slurry lagoon to return the land to public use was to develop a landfill. Caird Bardon Ltd recognised this and developed Peckfield Landfill Site which is now an important waste disposal facility for the Yorkshire region accepting up to 400,000 tonnes of non-hazardous waste per year.
